Being based in New York City, it’s hard not to acknowledge all the stylish people around you. People of all walks of life connect in this large city when it comes to style. When thinking of starting this new segment, it was important for us to depict that universal message of “style.”
We picked Halle Cherry as our first feature because she’s the definition of a swaggy carefree black girl ?
Gabrielle Amani: Who are some of your Favorite Designers?
Halle Cherry: Chanel and like Dior from back in the 90’s and…….. Max Mara. They used to have so much cool shit. Maria Ke Fisherman, she’s wavy and Phlemuns.
Gabrielle Amani: Who’s your style icon?
Halle Cherry: Cher, Sade, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Andre 3000
Gabrielle Amani: What style advice would you give your younger self?
Halle Cherry: Just stay swaggy! When I was in High School, people used to say I dress weird, but now they say wow you’re so wavy. Everything you do, they may not understand it then, but they will eventually understand it. Also, don’t always follow the hype just because everybody else got on vans and fishnet tights, don’t mean you gotta have on vans and fishnet tights.
