Actress, Viola Davis and Insecure co-creator, Larry Wilmore will be bringing a new black comedy series to ABC!
The series will be written and exec produced by the co-executive producer of ‘InsecureHBO’, Regin Hicks. The show follows three former sorority sisters who reunite at a climatic point in their lives. They realize that as you get older (crack) it is ok as long as you have your sisters there to support you.
Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon are exec producing through their production company JuVee Production. Tennon states, ” Viola and I [ find inspiration from] Regina Hicks and to have Larry Wilmore EP is a dream. Seeing these three African-American women who appear not to age but, to have challenges that we all can relate to and in a way, we have not seen before, will be a revelation”.
We are so excited to see the artistry of two powerful creatives in the industry at work. A black comedy series that show black women in a positive light is necessary, especially when the stigma surrounding Black women on televiosion is not always positive. There is nothing more important than the representation of women supporting women and helping each other get through life together. I wonder if this is going to be a modern-day ‘Girlfriends’ hmm… Either way, I love the title and can’t wait for the season premiere.
What do you think about Viola Davis and Larry Wilmore’s new project? Is it something you will watch?
