There are few but certain words out there for Tom Ford; the fashion designer and the man. Glamour, sophistication and a sense of definitive but yet practical luxury is what you conclude with during his Spring 2018 show.
After a year away from New York, Tom Ford was back with a host of celebrity frow guests. The supermodels of today donning his latest collection. This was the first hyped show of fashion week. First of all, those in attendance also got to take home Tom Ford’s new Eau de Parfum. Have you heard the name already? ‘F***ing Fabulous.’ Much like the entire Park Avenue Armory which was scented with it at showtime Wednesday evening.
Kim Kardashian-West, Julianne Moore, Sistine Stallone and an array of other celebrities, actors and influencers were in attendance. Tom Ford’s guest list is never anything short of exclusivity because Tom Ford feels like an exclusive designer. You can tell with each season’s show that he likes to integrate the timeless luxury he created for his eponymous brand but yet, reinvents ways to keep his collections more than current.
The Collection
Post-show, Mr. Ford let everyone in on his inspiration that lead to the 37 looks the fashion corps had just witnessed. “I’ve been living in L.A. and people wear sports clothes in the daytime, and in the evening they wear mega eveningwear;” describing the way in which the collection was designed projecting two overall looks. The uber glamorous evening wear Tom Ford does oh so well in addition to his take on sportswear.
Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid brought a 90’s vibe down the catwalk with exaggerated detailing and boy-crop haircuts. It was dreamy. There were sequins, bold colors, padded shoulders and mini dresses; everything reminiscent of an era gone-by. Ford’s classic tailoring was too brought to womenswear. As anyone who knows his design aesthetic, Tom Ford’s suits are something of a covetable masterpiece and he let the female interests know because Ford has a belief in what he does with each collection and long may it last. In conclusion, it ought to be an interesting time for his clientele.
