It feels like Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have been together forever. But in reality, it has only been a bit over a year. The rapper got together with Aiko after his break up with pop star Ariana Grande. Grande talked about the pair’s end to E!, saying, “…wasn’t that hard for me, because we were friends. So it’s chill.” Although we may never know exactly why they grew apart, there is a documented history of went wrong between Sean and actress Naya Rivera.
After six months of dating, news broke that Rivera was engaged to Big Sean in October 2013. But in April 2014, the relationship had already fallen apart. After only a year together, the pair called off their engagement. On Twitter, Big Sean posted a statement that said the breakup had occurred. However, in her tell-all book release in March 2016, Rivera reveals details that made us all side eye Sean. In Sorry Not Sorry, she writes of her surprise and confusion at Sean’s statement.
“I learned that I was no longer getting married from the internet, and at the same time as the rest of the world. Not only were we no longer getting married, but apparently we weren’t even together anymore.” Rivera stated. Her book also gave a not so light hint that connected the dots for fans. After numerous fights, Rivera said she had made an untimely visit to Big Sean’s house, only to make a shocking discovery. “…guess what little girl is sitting cross-legged on the couch listening to music? … It rhymes with ‘Smariana Schmande.’”
Soon after the breakup, Rivera made a tweet accusing Big Sean of theft. “@bigsean stealing rolexes from a lady’s house now. Maybe cuz I’m on Glee and making more money or something. #triflin.” But on the flip side, Big Sean claimed that Rivera threatened him, saying phrases like “If you don’t listen to what I say, I’ll ruin your career.” Wow. Now, Rivera is being linked to 52 year old actor David Spade.
Although they were cute while it lasted, Naya Rivera and Big Sean go to show that a no one really knows what happens behind closed doors. What looked picture perfect went down in flames. Let’s hope things fare better with Jhene Aiko.
