MEF Street Style Chronicles ? Featuring New York Based Poet, Elyanna Sanchez

We met Elyanna Sanchez back in November 2017. When first putting this segment together, we searched Instagram for cool people we could feature.When we came across Elyanna’s profile we knew automatically that we wanted to feature her. The poet’s style was simple, but extremely strong. We were drawn to her chic monochromatic style. She didn’t wear much color, but she still made a statement.

How would you describe your style in three words?
Three words: versatile, formless, constantly unfolding (I know that’s two words)

What is your style message to the world?
You don’t need to buy expensive things or name brands to look good. I personally wear so many things I find around my house, borrow clothes from my parents and go thrifting a lot. It’s also important to feel confident in what you’re wearing but it’s never necessary to break the bank to look good. As an artist and writer, I take to nature and various paintings and poetry for style inspiration— it might sound weird to some, but it’s important to find your own niche and mold it to your own style. Finding self-love helps with that. Once you’re comfortable with yourself, you’ll become a lot more confident with your personal style.

How did your style change from High school?
My style completely changed. Towards the end of high school, I was only interested in minimal, colorless plain outfits, especially the beginning of college. I think it’s necessary to change being that it’s the only thing that’s constant in the world. It’s important to embrace that. I’ve been falling in love with bold red and forest green and I’ve never been particularly interested in those colors before last year. Incorporating these colors was stepping out of my comfort zone, and I feel like I’m taking leaps today. It feels really great.

Who should we shoot next?
@thegrayhaus she’s someone I deeply look up to when it comes to style. I think she has some great ideas and there are few outfits of hers I haven’t seen on anyone else.
