Viral Food Trends That You Should Try

When we get bored, we may binge watch a series or treat ourselves to some self-care. Other times we may find ourselves shopping or napping. However, all of us share the guilty pleasure of going down the rabbit hole of social media. The newest rabbit hole: food reels and TikToks. For the most part, a lot of the food looks really good, while others can be a bit questionable. We are here to break down the ten viral foods you should or should not try.

1. Honey Hot Chicken

A hot recipe that’s been blowing up on TikTok is Jordan Ramsay’s hot honey wings. This recipe is on our to-try list because it’s easy and looks delicious. The recipe calls for chicken tenderloins, a variety of spices, hot sauce, honey, and flour. This recipe is great for anyone who has the time to cook and wants to dive into the spicy side.

2. Yogurt Custard Toast

Now this one may sound a bit strange, but this is actually the perfect treat to start your morning. Yumna Jawad, also known as “Feel Good Foodie”, was the first to introduce us to this sweet and light snack. This recipe is easy to make, really affordable, and healthy! Although the video above shows white bread and strawberries, you can go with any kind of bread or fruit.

3. Birria Ramen

It seems like ever since Birria hit the scene, we cannot get enough of it! Well, if you’re looking for a way to remix your Birria Tacos, try Birria Ramen. There are two ways you can make this recipe. The first method is reheating leftover Birria Broth. Assuming that you recently ordered tacos, reheat your leftover broth and grab a pack of ramen for a quick and easy Birria Ramen. However, if you want to make your own from scratch, that does require a bit more planning and time. If you aren’t sure of how to make authentic Birria we’ve got you covered. The perk: it is fairly easy to make. This is the perfect go-to meal for the cold weather!

4. BBQ Pulled Jackfruit

It’s not new, but it sure is delicious. Famous vegan actress and chef, Tabitha Brown, made her BBQ pulled jackfruit on TikTok a while ago, and it has been a hit ever since. Not only is this dish relatively healthy, but it’s very easy to make and doesn’t break the bank. The recipe calls for jackfruit, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, seasoning, barbecue sauce, and maple syrup (optional). This delicious dish is great for those wanting to eat on a budget.

5.Copycat Crunchwrap

If you like Taco Bell, you just might like this recipe. TikTok user, Cheyenne Singh, shows viewers how to make their own crunchwrap. Like a regular crunchwrap, you can add lettuce, tomato, ground meat, cheese, and anything else you would normally have. The only con to this recipe is that cooking is a little time-consuming and you risk messing up your crunchwrap. From experience, the bigger the tortilla is, the more likely it is for your ingredients to fall through. Be careful to not add too many ingredients to your crunchwrap. Overall, the copycat crunchwrap is great for when you want your favorite fast food meal but don’t want to spend money eating out.

6. Chili Garlic Oil Noodles

Yes, it is indeed another quick noodle meal. However, it’s not what you may think. This meal is a little spicy but, super flavorful and would pair nicely with sautéed shishito peppers. Both recipes are fairly easy to make and don’t require much time at all.

7. Shallot Bread

This may be a bit biased, coming from a huge garlic bread fan, but if you want to try something new, go for shallot bread. In theory, it’s technically the same thing, the only difference is instead of using garlic, you’re using shallots! If you can’t get past the shallots, food enthusiast, Pierce Abernathy created a recipe for combining both the shallots and garlic to make the perfect pair!

8. Rice Paper Dumplings

Want a quick, easy, affordable, and vegan recipe to try? Lisa Kithara, also known as okonomikitchen schools us on how to make the perfect rice paper dumplings. These are so simple and fun to make. The rice paper wrapping may take a little time, but the outcome makes it worth it. They are perfect for a savory quick snack!

9.Texas Toast Pizza

Over the past few weeks, Texas toast pizza has been the latest craze. If you’re someone who is on a budget, you’ll love this recipe. The Texas toast pizza consists of Texas toast, shredded cheese (any flavor), marinara sauce, melted butter, garlic powder, and your choice of toppings. This recipe takes all of 15 minutes to make and is an easy fix for those days when you don’t feel like cooking a big meal. If you want to make this recipe vegetarian/vegan-friendly, you can use vegan cheese, vegan butter, and a meat substitute.

10. Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

You can never go wrong with sliders, especially Philly cheesesteak sliders. This recipe is quick, easy, and mouthwatering. TikTok user Melissa Johnson (https://www.tiktok.com/@bestfriendsforfrosting?lang=en) makes a delicious Philly cheesesteak slider with Hawaiian sweet rolls, steak strips, sauteed onions and bell peppers, provolone cheese, and a little bit of mayonnaise. You can make this recipe in just 10 minutes. It’s great for parties, housewarming events, or when you want to have a little snack.

After all that experimenting, we came to realize one thing for sure – everything tastes good. However, if we had to choose our favorites the Philly cheesesteak sliders, Texas toast pizza, pulled BBQ jackfruit sandwich, and Chili were the easiest to make and the most affordable. Each recipe was made within 15 minutes and purchasing ingredients cost less than $25. At times, some of the food we see on the internet may be a little out of our comfort zone, but if we learned anything from this: TRY IT!
