Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Flowers bloom, trees get their leaves back, and the weather gets warmer. However, spring is also a season for sniffles, allergies, and congestion. Thankfully, there are a few tips to avoid getting sick during the spring.

No one enjoys being sick. Whether you are prone to seasonal allergies or easily susceptible to common colds, you don’t have to camp out at home to escape being unhealthy. Something as simple as maintaining a thorough hygiene routine can help keep you from getting sick. Here are five tips to avoid getting sick during the spring!

1. Get a good night’s rest.

If you are a night owl that gets sick easily, you may be sleep-deprived. In 2024, ensure that you get the recommended hours of sleep each night. According to Comfee, your immune system suffers when you don’t get enough sleep. If your immune system begins to take a hit, you are more likely to get sick. Harvard Health suggests that women sleep seven to nine hours every night.

2. Take a multivitamin and supplements.

You may be tired of hearing your mom tell you to take your vitamins, but she might have a point. Taking multivitamins can give your immune system the boost it needs to fight against germs. If you get sick frequently, consider taking a vitamin D supplement (or spending a little more time in the sun). According to the National Library of Medicine, research reports that zinc supplements can prevent and shorten colds.

3. Wash your hands often.

If the COVID-19 global pandemic taught us anything, it’s that washing your hands is imperative. Throughout the day, we touch many things that contain several germs. Per Time magazine, our mobile phones can contain more germs than a toilet seat. Though we cannot entirely avoid germs, we can significantly reduce the amount we come in contact with. Be sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap often.

4. Stay home when you are sick.

It may be easier said than done, but please stay home if you are not feeling well. We understand that not everyone has the luxury of skipping a shift just for a common cold, so if you must go to work, consider wearing a mask. Additionally, avoid coming into close contact with others by keeping at least six feet of distance. Although you are already sick, this precaution will keep others from getting sick. Additionally, you’ll reduce the risk of your cold becoming worse.

5. Work out regularly.

Believe it or not, staying active is one of the best tips for avoiding getting sick during the spring season. Not only does it increase your overall health, but it also boosts your immune system. Comfee suggests working out at least three times a week.

Although avoiding germs may not be possible, you can still prevent yourself from getting sick! Any of the tips mentioned above can help you remain healthy. In addition, remember to eat your fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water!
