SZA (Solána Rowe) officially released her long-awaited début album, “CTRL“, on June 9th. The 14-track album conveys some of the songstress insecurities and brutal honesty about relationships while displaying her powerful yet smooth vocals. CTRL features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and Isaiah Rashad. Standout tracks from the album includes:
“Supermodel” the album opens up with a spoken word moment, in which SZA’s mother says “that is my greatest fear, that if I lost control or did not have control, things would just, you know I, it would be fatal.” Could this be a hint behind the album being named “CTRL?” SZA continues to sing about her unfaithful ex and getting her revenge.
“Love Galore” is all about the carefree girl who can’t be played because she knows the game herself. The Jersey native sings about only needing love but in the same breath, she doesn’t. In the video, SZA and Travis Scott gets cozy before things took an unexpected turn when she ties him to the bed.
“The Weekend”, SZA reveals a love triangle comparing the other girl to a 9-5 and herself as the weekend. The Curly headed cutie remains confident over the other girl by not losing control singing “my man is my man is your man, her, this her man too.”
SZA speaks on old love in “Garden (Say It Like Dat) “, keep her at her best. Hiding who she truly is “hope you never find out who I really am, Cause you’ll never love me”, she sings.
SZA début album earned a 9 out of 10. “CTRL” is definitely healing especially for anyone seeking identifiable relationship experiences to relate too.
