Born Ludmya Bourdeau on December 6, 1975, in Brooklyn, New York, Mia Love was the daughter of Haitian immigrant parents. Her journey epitomized the American dream. She graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in fine arts. She later moved to Utah, where she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Breaking Barriers in Utah and Washington
Love’s political career began in 2003 when she was elected to the city council of Saratoga Springs, Utah. In 2009, she made history by becoming the city’s first female mayor. Her political rise continued in 2014 when she was elected to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District. She went on to serve two terms in the House until 2019.
During her tenure, she focused on banking regulation, budget policy, and immigration reform.

Doctors diagnosed Mia Love with glioblastoma in 2022. After enduring aggressive treatment, doctors informed her in early 2025 that the cancer was no longer responding.
