Tessa Thompson will portray, Dorris Payne one of the most prolific jewel thieves in history.
Thompson, star of Thor: Ragnoraok, Dear White People, and Creed, will portray Doris Payne in a movie about her crime career.
Tessa took to Twitter to express her excitement in portraying Doris. She has admired her for years and relished the idea of portraying her on the big screen.
After chasing Doris and her story for years— and then keeping this secret for awhile— I’m screaming that this dream is coming true. She is a deeply fascinating woman. So pleased to bring this story to the screen with CodeBlack & Lionsgate. Beyond grateful. https://t.co/GMfigAdwy4

How Did She Do It?
Doris Payne’s method was simple: Come off as a sweet, older woman who was just looking to purchase some shiny things for her self. However, Doris had ulterior motives. When she entered a jewelry store she knew she would leave with whatever she wanted. She would inquire about one item, then get overly excited and ask to see more. When the jeweler was distracted, she would slip the jewelry in her pockets and sashay away.
She eluded the authorities for years! Her biggest steal was a 10-carat diamond ring, valued at $500,000. She has stolen jewels from all around the world including Monaco, Tokyo, and Paris.
“I dont have any regrets about stealing jewelry. I regret getting caught.” – Doris Payne
The Gag? She Is Still Stealing To This Day
Well, sort of. Doris’ latest arrest came just last July when she was caught stealing $86.22 worth of merchandise from an Atlanta Wal-Mart-all the while wearing an ankle bracelet from a previous 2016 robbery.
We can’t wait for the movie! If you’re just as excited as us, check out this trailer from a 2014 documentary about her criminal career, The Life And Crimes Of Doris Payne.
